"Holland - Grand Haven area ranked No. 1 in meeting the basic needs of residents in the Gallup-Healthways Well-Being index poll" (Holland Sentinel 5/11/10)
Remember the headlines declaring the benefits of living in our community?? While I appreciate the national spotlight I know not everyone in our community shares this experience.
‘Ray’, a single father of two, had been sleeping in his van. His two middle school daughters had stayed with friends after the family was evicted from their home. Ray had worked at metal fabricating and carpentry jobs for years, but over the last year he was limited to short term work and unemployment resulting in homelessness.
After we met with him, he left here crying and so thankful to have a place to sleep tonight. He asked me, in disbelief as if to confirm this place was really his or if he would get arrested for sleeping there. “No, the place is yours.”
Good Samaritan Ministries works in our community day in and day out . . . making a difference. Make a gift – today - right now. It is easier than every to help families who face personal crises that threaten our entire community. There are more people like Ray than you can imagine . . . right in our neighborhood.
