There are a number of volunteer opportunities available at Good Samaritan Ministries, from mentoring program participants to answering phones and greeting visitors at the Good Sam office.
Current Volunteer Opportunities:
Volunteer as a Circle Ally with our Circles program. Circles brings people of diverse incomes together to help low-income individuals and families achieve their financial goals. Circle Allies are volunteers who believe Circle Leaders (low-income individuals) can change their lives and achieve their financial goals. The best Circle Allies are patient, positive, good listeners, and willing to learn about the struggles facing low-income families. We have already seen lives being changed, and we hope you’ll join us! Contact Brent Boersma for more information.
Become a CHP Advocate. Transitioning from homelessness to stability is very difficult for families, so as a part of the Community Housing Partnership (CHP), each family in the program is paired with a mentoring group from a local church. Families in our CHP program flourish when they have mentors who provide encouragement, patience, and kindness. Contact Jody Immink for more information.
Be a part of the Clearinghouse. The Clearinghouse assists church partners by assessing the needs of an individual to determine the appropriate level of financial and relational support. Our volunteers answer inquiries from individuals looking for help and conduct consults for local churches. If you have the gift of administration with a dose of patience and compassion, this is a great fit for you. Contact Marjorie Rosario for more information.
Work at the front desk of the Good Samaritan Ministries’ office. Our front desk is staffed by a committed group of volunteers, and we’re always looking for more people to join the team. Tasks include answering calls to our general line and greeting individuals that come into the office. Volunteers who are cheerful and kind help make our office a welcoming and safe place for everyone. Contact Marjorie Rosario for more information.
Provide a meal for the Circles Program. Each week, Circle participants, volunteers, and their children gather for a meal before their evening of programming. Participate in this life changing program by preparing, serving, sharing in, and cleaning up a nutritious meal for approximately 50 people. This can be a one-time opportunity, or you can be included in a rotating schedule for meal preparation. Contact Lotefa Bartlett de Villarreal for more information.
Join a home maintenance/repair team. Sign up to assist with home maintenance and repair on homes in our housing program. This is an “as needed” opportunity, and can be a great service project for large groups, especially during spring and fall clean up times. Contact Maria DeLeon for more information.
Participate in Good Sam’s Wild Run. Each year, Good Samaritan Ministries hosts Good Sam’s Wild Run, and obstacle run for kids ages 4-13 where the obstacles are created by local companies. Volunteers (ages 14 and up) are needed for a variety of tasks including check in, serving sno cones, and helping to make sure kids are safe and cheered on as they maneuver obstacles. Visit our Facebook page for photos of this exciting event! Contact Anne Reilly-Clegg for more information.
